Mitsubishi Lancer

Syracuse, Watertown and Rochester, NY Mitsubishi

Starting your Mitsubishi in the winters can be a big problem, especially for people living in really cold areas up north. There are three reasons why cars are hard to start when it's cold:

  1. Gasoline, like any other liquid, evaporates less when it's really cold, so it becomes harder to burn it.
  2. Oil gets a lot thicker when it gets cold. So when you attempt to start a cold engine, the thicker oil makes it hard for the engine to rotate. In extremely cold climate, many people must use synthetic motor oils because of their quality to stay liquid even in cold temperatures.
  3. Cold temperature affects battery performance, thus the starter motor has less energy when it attempts to start the engine.

How to Start Your Mitsubishi in Freezing Weather

  • This applies if your Mitsubishi has a carburetor. Pressing the accelerator pedal will dispense small amounts of fuel into the intake, which will help the engine get going. Note that this is not needed in cars with fuel injected engines.
  • The cold temperature takes a toll on the battery power. Shutting the car door and running off all accessories, including radio, lights and the heater, maximizes the starting power.
  • While attempting to start the car, don't hold the key for longer than 10 seconds; overworking the starter can cause mechanical damage. If the car fails to start, wait a few minutes and try again.
  • Do not forget to let the battery recover. If the battery dies, you will have to jump start it.

How to Jump Start A Dead Battery

If the battery is completely unresponsive, the starter won't be able to work at all. This means the battery is dead and needs a jump start. You will require a set of jumper cables and a running car.

  • Position the car with the front end facing each other.
  • Connect the jumper cables to the appropriate terminals. Check for the + and - symbols on the cables and the battery terminal. Attach the cable with the + symbol to the positive terminal on both batteries, then the cable with the - symbol on the negative terminal. The dead battery will use the electricity from the running car to start.
  • Do not turn the car off after jump starting the car. The battery will take a few minutes to recharge itself while the engine is running.
  • If the car does not start or recharge after driving it for around 20 minutes, then the terminal on the battery is not functioning properly. Head towards the closest service station or Fuccillo Mitsubishi if in Watertown, Adams, Syracuse, NY, for a checkup.

Mitsubishi Galant

Mitsubishi Galant

Mitsubishi Galant is considered to be one of the most reliable vehicles in the market. However, if your vehicle has been neglected, it can, and will overheat, putting you in an uncomfortable situation. Read through the article to get informed on how to deal with an overheated engine.

Necessary Precaution

Having a contingency plan will make your ordeal much easier to deal with, so be prepared in case of an emergency.

  • Make sure to have some water and a bottle of an anti-freeze, also called coolant, stashed in the trunk.
  • Make sure the radiator is not empty before embarking on a long drive.
  • Conduct regular checkups at a service station for leaks and the health of the radiator.
  • Hoses and the belts are commonly overlooked. Regular inspection would avoid any unnecessary pit stops.
  • Ensure regular inspection of the temperature gauge.

In the Case of an Emergency

Stop the car on the side of the road if the needle on the temperature gauge is moving towards H, or if the notification alert lights up.

  • Turn off the car and open the hood to let the heat escape.
  • Do not open the radiator cap while the engine is hot. The steam from the heated fluid creates extreme pressure and can cause a severe burn injury
  • Exercise extreme caution while opening the radiator.
  • Check the water levels in the radiator, and refill accordingly.
  • Also check the coolant level.

If the water and coolant levels are adequate, a leak may exist in the cooling system; consider taking your car to the nearest mechanic.

What to Do if You Must Drive

  • Wait for the car to cool down.
  • Keep a close eye on the temperature gauge or the light.
  • Turn off the air conditioning, as it puts a huge load on the engine.
  • You can use the heater to disperse the heat in the engine. Turn the vent on and put the heater on full blast. The heater in the car utilizes the existing heat in the engine, thus making the engine significantly cooler.
  • If the engine gets too hot, pull over and turn off the car, but keep the keys in the ignition. This will turn the engine off but keep the fan and the cooling system working. You can also do this while you wait in traffic or are stopped at a red light.
  • The Mitsubishi Galant has a belt driven radiator fan, so increasing the engine speed to 2000 rpm while the transmission is in neutral would allow the radiator fan and water pump to run faster.

If you find yourself stuck in Watertown, Adams, Syracuse, NY, head down towards Fuccillo Mitsubishi for a complete check up on your coolant system. You should take your Mitsubishi Galant to Fuccillo Mitsubishi for regular maintenance to avoid on road emergencies. Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Used Mitsubishi Outlander

These blog posts are from guest authors who purchased vehicles from us and wanted share their experience

Hi, I am a 33 year old marketing executive working at a marketing agency. I have a loving wife and two kids, one just turned 11 and the other is four.

We were planning on getting a new car for some time, but as it turned out, buying a new car is not as simple as I thought. There were quite a few factors to consider before buying a car. Though I would have loved a convertible, my amazing wife is the sensible one of the two; she keeps my feet grounded.

Anyway, we had a restricted budged and I wanted a stylish car. The cabin had to be spacious enough for a baby seat. Safety was obviously extremely important. And my wife had decided to go green in 2003, a decision she made for the both of us, so the car had to be somewhat environment friendly.

My wife and I went to Fuccillo Mitsubishi, a Mitsubishi dealership car in Watertown, NY. I completely fell in love with the Mitsubishi Outlander, and after a few test drives, I was sure I wanted it. The price was slightly higher than what we were willing to pay, and I was not comfortable with a used car. So the salesperson recommended the Mitsubishi certified pre-owned vehicle program.

The Outlander has 7 seats, so the space was no issue. The drive is quite comfortable and the hybrid version satisfied my wife's thirst for a greener tomorrow, as it has the lowest emitting CO2 levels for a 4×4, and was also selected as one of the top 5 finalists for the 2014 World Green Car of The Year. The engine is fairly quiet compared to the rest of the crossovers available in the market.

Another feature that stood out was the warranty on the vehicle; a 10 years / 100,000 miles limited warranty is the best in the industry. The forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning and the adaptive cruise control are some of the most brilliant addition to the new model.

The outlander was kinder to our budget as well, and the Gx3 model represents a sensible balance between costs and specs. And with an average of 45 MPG, it is great for an automatic 7 seat SUV.

I got great advice and a brilliant car, so we are glad we went to Fuccillo Mitsubishi, and I plan to visit them frequently for my SUV's regular maintenance and checkups.

If you wish to share your story about a car you bought at our dealership, our readers would love to read about it. You are welcome to visit us at Fuccillo Mitsubishi, and our sales representatives will assist you in any way possible. If you have a car in mind, come over and test it out or we can suggest the perfect car for your needs.

Used Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

Mitsubishi came out with the Lancer Evolution in the 1990s to compete in the World Rally Championships. It is more commonly known as The Evo.. Finnish rally driver Tommy Makinen won four World Rally Championships in a special edition of the EVO, giving the car legendary status.

The Lancer EVO is a sports sedan, based on the Mitsubishi Lancer. The new Lancer Evolution returns with an enhanced interior, and is one of the finest street legal rally race cars. With a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine, an advanced four wheel drive, generating 291 horsepower and 300 pound feet of torque at 4000 RPM, the Evo is a treat for Mitsubishi fans.

Tires

Tires are one of the most important parts of a car. All of the maneuvering is done through tires, i.e. traction, braking and steering. The safety of the driver and the quality of the drive directly depend upon the quality and health of the tires. Here is a small list of tips on tire maintenance:

  • Tires should be regularly checked for air pressure and maintained at the optimum level according to the owner's manual.
  • Tire alignment is extremely important; not only can it create a driving hazard, but can also reduce expected life of the tire.
  • Caution should be paid towards the treads of the tire. Traction is created through the tread which keeps the car from skidding off the road.

Engine

An engine is the heart of the car; it needs to be looked after for the longevity of the car.

  • Engine lubricants should be changed regularly. Modern cars require an oil change after every 5000 miles. Checking for leakages is also very important.
  • Monitoring the coolant system, i.e. radiator, coolant, water pump, thermostat.
  • Replacement of air filters.
  • Replacing fuel filters.
  • Regular tuning of the engine. Spark plugs should be checked and replaced if worn out.

Exterior

The body of a car requires extensive maintenance, otherwise it starts to rust. If left unchecked, the car's life would be significantly reduced.

  • Cars should be washed at least once every two weeks and waxed once every month. Taking it to a carwash or a service station ensures that salt residue, which is the agent associated with accelerated rusting, is cleared from every nook and cranny of the car.
  • Anti rust paint should be applied before rust is visible.
  • Windshield vipers should be checked.
  • Headlights, indicators, taillights and brake lights should be fixed immediately, as it is a complete violation of traffic law and can create traffic hazards.
  • Replace battery terminals and battery fluid.

Mitsubishi Lancer

Used Mitsubishi Lancer

Many soon to be car owners go through several questions when making a purchase decision. One of the biggest conflicts in the decision making process is whether to buy a new or a used car. Despite promotional events and impressive value added services exclusively available to brand new cars owners, new cars come with a hefty price tag and are susceptible to significant depreciation.

Unfortunate Reality of Depreciation

The concept of depreciation is a dreadful reality for every car owner. Depreciation is the reduction of value of an asset due to wear and tear. It's even been referred to as a silent thief. The first year inflicts the biggest dent in a new vehicle's value. This is due to the value switching from the retail value to the whole sale value the moment the car is driven off the lot. Therefore, compared to their counterparts second-hand car buyers lose less value on their purchase.

The Insurance factor

Every car owner wants to protect him or herself from any possible liability should an accident occur. The insurance premium and deductibles will most likely be lesser than for a new car; consideration of a few factors will result in even lower insurance cost.

  • Vehicle history has significant leverage in determining insurer's risk. Buyer should be informed about the car's history regarding theft and accidents.
  • Safety features of the used car's make and model.
  • Spare parts for older cars are usually cheaper. Time invested on spare parts and maintenance costs will yield a result beneficial to the buyer.
  • Considering physical damage coverage needs. A pre-owned car usually does not require high collision coverage as they tend to be cheaper than a brand new car.

Certification Programs

Recent proliferation of pre owned certified cars, like the Mitsubishi Lancer, have made buying a new car even more attractive. Previously the certification concept was offered only by a few luxury brands. But recently, most car manufacturers have established these programs.

  • Manufacturers mostly consider only late models, with relatively low mileage. Vehicles undergo a rigorous inspection process of mechanical and aesthetic criterion.
  • Several manufacturers are now offering financing on certified vehicles, usually on lower rates than on new car loans.

The Dream Factor

Purchasing a car is a long process, with several different factors that need to be taken into consideration before the actual purchase can happen. From the moment a person decides on buying a vehicle till the actual purchase of the vehicle, there is significant room for the dreaming process, where one is taken through an imaginary journey of all the cars he or she might end up with. Due to the lower costs of pre owned vehicles, one has a wide array of selection to go through, the endless possibilities and the optimism for a better tomorrow.
