The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport earns its trim name by offering a sportier look than some of the plainer compact crossovers in the segment. It ranks as one of the more affordable crossover utility vehicles though it offers a lot of value for the money in features and options. The Outlander Sport shows superiority in the segment with the quality and quantity of its standard equipment and its outstanding safety ratings.
The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has a new nose design, incorporating the latest Mitsubishi styling flair. Called the "Dynamic Shield" front end, it brings the Sport closer in look to others in the Mitsubishi line. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is by far the most popular model in Mitsubishi’s U.S. lineup - making it also a great investment for a future trade-in!
The Outlander Sport interior feels larger than you would expect when looking from the outside. The interior look is clean and minimalist. Soft-touch materials line the dash and for 2016 there's a new light-gray interior option.
Up front, the seats are comfy and supportive, in back two adults or three children can be accommodated very comfortably. The seats have nicely contoured back rests, dual cup-holders, and a fold-down padded armrest. The rear seats are easy to fold with a 60/40 split. When these are down the cargo space opens impressively – plenty of space for weekend gear, furniture or groceries. A pass-through in the rear seat is also very helpful.
Boarding the cabin has a nice, rather effortless feel, the vehicle level is lower than larger crossovers making it much easier for kids and older persons to board.
The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has superior maneuverability, making it a great city navigator. The drive experience is more like a sedan than an CUV. It drives and corners with a light, responsive feel for efficient city driving. Out on the road, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport shines with comfort and provides an ultra-smooth, quiet ride. The Outlander Sport delivers the best of both driving worlds.
Trim levels for the Outlander Sport start with the base ES, move up to the SE and SEL to the high-spec GT model.
Two engines are offered for 2016, along with optional all-wheel drive in both. A five-speed manual gearbox is available on the base 2.0 ES model with front-wheel drive; the other trims come with the continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Safety features that you won't find in many other comparable models can be found on the Outlander such as front knee airbags standard; keyless entry, automatic climate control, and a 140-watt sound system are all included. Top-of-the-line SE models include a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and heated seats.
